Cap. 1The Big Splash on the Beach

They walked across the wide and sandy beach together. The sand was yellow and very wet. David ran through the water near the shore. He liked to kick the water very high. He saw a broken box and he laughed. He liked to see things that were broken. Cris stayed very close to David. He kept his head down low. Cris did not like the big splashes. He did not like the loud bangs. David pointed at the dark smoke. The smoke went up into the blue sky. David said the smoke was very pretty. He had a mean twinkle in his eyes. Cris just wanted to find a place to hide. He felt very small on the big beach. He hoped the day would end soon. He wanted a quiet place to sit. David kept looking for things to break. He was having a very good time. He liked the messy beach very much. He saw a red flag and pulled it down. He laughed when the flag fell. Cris just sighed and followed his friend. They walked past big rocks and small shells. David stepped on the shells to hear them pop. He liked the popping sound very much. The beach was very long and very wide. There were many things to see there.

They reached a hill with long green grass. The wind blew through the grass. The hill was very tall and very quiet. David found a metal door in the dirt. The door was heavy and gray. David smiled a very scary smile again. He loved to find hidden things. He grabbed the handle with his hands. Cris shook his head and stepped back. Cris was worried about the metal door. He wanted to run away fast. David pulled the handle very hard. The door opened with a loud creak. A bright blue light came out. It was a magical and soft light. They looked down into the deep hole. Something was moving in the dark. David laughed and started to climb down. Cris followed because he was scared to be alone. The blue light grew brighter. What would they find in the room? It was a big secret. They went down into the dark hole together. The adventure was just starting for the two soldiers. They did not know what was next. The light made David's scary smile look even bigger. Cris held onto David's green sleeve very tight. They stepped into the blue glow. The grass was tall enough to hide them both. It waved in the soft wind.
