Ch. 3The Giant Mushroom Forest

A warm light surrounded them, and suddenly, they were no longer in the library. They stood in a bright forest with mushrooms as tall as trees. The air smelled like rain and earth. Pip gasped. 'Look!' he said, pointing at a giant red mushroom with white spots. Barnaby stepped closer, feeling the soft ground beneath his paws. They explored, laughing and marveling at the huge fungi around them. A tiny creature with big eyes peeked out from behind a mushroom. 'Hello!' it squeaked. 'Are you lost?' Pip and Barnaby smiled. 'We're exploring!' they said together.

The tiny creature, named Muffy, led them deeper into the forest. She explained that the mushrooms were alive and could take them anywhere. Pip wanted to go to the tallest mushroom, but Barnaby thought they should find their way back first. They argued gently, then decided to try a mushroom that looked like a slide. As they climbed, the mushroom began to glow. Muffy waved goodbye. 'Come back soon!' she said. Pip and Barnaby held hands and jumped. The mushroom carried them high into the sky, back toward the library. But as they flew, they saw another glowing book in the distance, waiting for them.
