Ch. 3A Bird in the Chimney

Inside the chimney, a small blue bird was stuck. Its wings were tangled in soot. Damian carefully reached in and gently pulled the bird free. Jason held the bird in his hands and said, 'You’re safe now.' The bird chirped and flew into Damian’s arms. Damian smiled and said, 'I think it likes me.' Jason watched him and felt a warm, happy feeling in his chest.

Later, they sat on the roof with the bird in a small box. Damian said, 'I’ve never saved a bird before.' Jason nodded and said, 'You did a great job.' Damian looked at Jason and said, 'You’re always so kind.' Jason smiled and said, 'I just want to help people—and you.' The bird chirped again, as if agreeing with them.
