The Dinosaur Who Couldn't Sleep
Barnaby the baby T-Rex is terrified of the dark, believing it hides monsters and makes his world disappear. His mother takes him outside to see the night sky, teaching him that the darkness is simply a canvas for the beautiful, watchful stars.

Deep in the heart of the Whispering Ferns valley, where the trees grew as tall as mountains and the rivers hummed a low, ancient tune, lived a little dinosaur named Barnaby. Barnaby was a Tyrannosaurus Rex, but he wasn’t very fierce yet. He was small, with knobby knees, a tail that sometimes tripped him up, and a heart full of curiosity. But every night, when the golden sun dipped behind the jagged peaks of the Great Volcanoes, Barnaby’s curiosity turned into a little knot of worry. As the sky turned from orange to purple, and finally to a deep, velvety indigo, Barnaby would retreat into the very back of the family cave. He would pull his soft, mossy blanket up to his snout and squeeze his eyes shut tight. "The dark is too big," Barnaby whispered one night, his voice echoing off the stone walls. "And it hides all the things I know." His mother, Mama Rex, whose footsteps sounded like gentle drums against the earth, came to sit beside him. Her shadow was large, but it was a warm, familiar shape that smelled like rain and sweet clover. She nuzzled Barnaby’s cheek with her cool nose, her amber eyes glowing with kindness. "Why are those eyes still open, little spark?" she asked softly, her voice a low rumble that vibrated through Barnaby’s chest. "The dark is scary, Mama," Barnaby said, his voice trembling like a leaf in the wind. "The shadows look like hungry monsters with reaching claws, and I can't see the path to the river or the pretty blue flowers. Everything disappears when the light goes away. It feels like the world is gone." Mama Rex let out a low, comforting hum. It was the sound she made when she had a secret to share. "The dark doesn't make things disappear, Barnaby. It just gives the world a chance to wear its sparkly coat. The sun is very bright, and sometimes it hides the most beautiful secrets of all. Come with me." Barnaby didn't want to leave his mossy nest, but he trusted Mama Rex more than he feared the shadows. He took a deep breath, tucked his tail close, and followed her toward the wide mouth of the cave.
