How to keep Halloween stories not scary
Tell them it ends happily
With 3- and 4-year-olds, say at the start that everything turns out fine. They enjoy the mystery without worrying.
Make your child the hero
When the child solves the problem, the shiver turns into pride. That is why using their name helps.
Silly, not scary
Shy ghosts, clumsy witches and giggling pumpkins: at this age, laughing takes the place of fear.
Read it before dinner
Keep the Halloween story for the late afternoon and end bedtime with something calm.
