What is a leveled reading passage?
A leveled reading passage is the same text written at several levels of difficulty. Students read the same story and join the same class discussion, but each one reads a version they can succeed with.
This is the heart of differentiated reading: every classroom mixes emergent readers, on-level readers and advanced readers. With three versions of one story, nobody is left out and nobody is bored.
Each version comes with an age and grade label, a word count, three level-matched comprehension questions and five vocabulary words with definitions. Everything downloads as one PDF ready to photocopy.

Which ages and grades are the levels for?+
The beginner level targets emergent readers (ages 5-6, grade K-1), standard targets ages 7-8 (grades 2-3) and advanced targets ages 9-11 (grades 4-5). Each passage shows its own reference label.
