It was the night before Christmas, and the world outside Lily’s window was wrapped in a soft, silver blanket of snow. Inside, the house was warm and bright, with twinkling lights and the smell of cinnamon and gingerbread wafting through the air. Lily sat by the window, wrapped in a fuzzy red blanket, watching the snowflakes twirl and dance. She had been hoping for a snow globe for Christmas, but she knew Santa had a lot of work to do, and she didn’t want to be selfish.
Just then, she heard a soft thud from the backyard. Curious, she tiptoed outside, her breath puffing in the cold air. There, in the snow, was a little wooden train, half-buried and covered in ice. Lily’s eyes sparkled with wonder. She brushed the snow off the train, revealing a tiny, red bow tied around its engine. She knew immediately that this wasn’t just any toy—it was someone’s Christmas gift, lost in the snow.
As she reached out to pick it up, a jingle of bells echoed through the trees. Lily turned around, and there stood Santa, tall and beaming, with a long white beard and a bright red coat. His eyes twinkled like the stars above. “Hello, little one,” he said in a deep, kind voice. “I was just delivering gifts when I saw this train fall out of my sack. I thought I’d leave it for someone special to find.”
Lily’s heart leaped with joy. “I found it!” she said, holding up the train. “I’m going to give it back to the person who lost it.” Santa smiled warmly. “That’s very thoughtful of you, Lily. You’ve got a heart full of kindness.”
Together, they searched the neighborhood, following the trail of snowflakes and the soft glow of Christmas lights. They finally found the train belonging to a little boy named Max, who was crying in the snow. When Lily handed him the train, his face lit up like the northern lights. Santa knelt down and gave Max a big hug. “Merry Christmas, little friend,” he said.
As the sun began to rise, Santa waved goodbye. “Thank you for helping me, Lily. You’ve made this Christmas extra special.” Lily waved back, feeling warm inside. That night, she tucked herself into bed, the snow still twinkling outside, and dreamed of a world full of kindness, magic, and joy.
Merry Christmas, and always remember: the greatest gifts come from the heart.
