One crisp autumn evening, as the sun dipped behind the trees, Goldilocks skipped through the forest with her basket of berries. The air smelled of pine and earth, and the leaves crunched underfoot. She had heard stories about a warm little house nearby, just like the ones in the village, and she was determined to find it.
As she wandered deeper into the woods, she came upon a small wooden cottage, no bigger than a dollhouse. The shutters were painted blue, and a little smoke curled from the chimney. Goldilocks peered through the window and saw three tiny mice bustling about, preparing dinner. They looked so cozy and warm that she couldn’t resist knocking on the door.
A tiny mouse named Mimi opened the door. 'Hello, little one,' she said, her voice like a whisper of wind. 'May we help you?' Goldilocks explained she was just passing by and had never seen a house like this before. Mimi smiled and invited her in.
Inside, the cottage was full of soft cushions and little chairs. The mice had a tiny table with bowls of seeds and berries. Goldilocks sat down and watched them cook. She noticed a stack of little bowls on the counter, just the right size for the mice. She reached for one and asked, 'May I try some of your soup?' Mimi nodded, and Goldilocks tasted it. It was warm and delicious, and she asked for more. The mice smiled and gave her another bowl.
But Goldilocks was so hungry, she took a third bowl and a fourth. The mice didn’t mind, for they were kind and generous. After dinner, she helped them clean up, and they showed her their little garden outside, where they grew flowers and vegetables. Goldilocks played with their children, who were as curious as she was, and they all laughed and sang under the stars.
As the night deepened, the mice offered Goldilocks a soft little bed made of leaves and moss. 'You can sleep here tonight,' Mimi said. 'We’re always happy to share our home with a kind heart.' Goldilocks curled up in the bed, feeling safe and warm. She listened to the rustling leaves and the soft sounds of the forest, and soon, she was fast asleep.
When she woke up the next morning, the mice had made her breakfast and said goodbye. 'Thank you for visiting us,' Mimi said. 'We hope you always treat others with kindness, just as you were treated.' Goldilocks smiled and promised she would. She returned home with a heart full of joy and a basket of seeds from the mice to plant in her own garden.
And from that day on, whenever Goldilocks passed by the forest, she would stop by the mice’s cottage, share a story, and remind herself of the lesson she had learned: 'Always treat others as you would like to be treated.'
