Up high in the sky, where the clouds were soft and the stars twinkled like tiny lanterns, lived a little star named Luma. Luma was different from the others — not because she was smaller, but because she was afraid to shine. Every night, while her brothers and sisters sparkled with bold brilliance, Luma stayed dim, hiding behind the moon’s gentle glow.
One evening, a little girl named Ruby sat outside with her blanket, looking up at the sky. She whispered, “I wish I could find a star that listens.” The stars twinkled, but Luma, who had been watching, felt a warm tug in her heart. She floated down to the girl and asked, “What’s on your mind, Ruby?”
Ruby told Luma about her worries — about school, about friends, about feeling too small to matter. Luma listened, her light growing stronger with every word. When Ruby finally fell asleep, Luma returned to the sky, but this time, her light was brighter than ever. Not because she had grown bigger, but because she had learned to give her light to others.
From that night on, Luma became the favorite star of the night. Children would point her out and say, “Look, there’s the star who listens.” And Luma would shine just a little brighter, knowing that kindness, not brightness, was what truly made her light shine. The moral of the story is: The greatest light comes from the heart that listens and gives.
