The Moonlight Museum was usually the quietest place in town, but today, a loud gasp echoed through the halls. The 'Golden Giggling Grapefruit,' a famous statue made of solid gold and sparkling emeralds, had vanished from its velvet cushion!
Little Leo, a boy with a very sharp eye and a trusty magnifying glass, was visiting the museum that morning. He immediately noticed the commotion. 'Nobody leave!' he called out in his bravest voice. There were exactly five people in the gallery: Officer Oatmeal the guard, Madame Magenta the artist, Mr. Click the tourist, Benny Bun the baker, and Leo himself.
Officer Oatmeal looked frantic. 'I only blinked for a second to sneeze!' he cried, adjusting his blue hat. Madame Magenta was standing nearby, her hands covered in purple paint as she worked on a canvas. Mr. Click was busy fiddling with his heavy camera lens, looking confused. Benny Bun stood near the exit, clutching a large, white cardboard box tightly to his chest.
Leo began his investigation. He knelt down and looked at the floor near the empty pedestal. He didn't find fingerprints, but he did find a trail of fine, white powder. He touched it—it wasn't dust; it was flour! He followed the white footprints across the marble floor. They led straight to Benny Bun’s feet.
Leo noticed something else. A soft, golden light was leaking out from the corners of Benny’s cake box. 'Mr. Bun,' Leo said, pointing his magnifying glass. 'That is a very shiny cake you have in there.'
Benny’s face turned as red as a strawberry. He slowly opened the box. Resting on top of a giant sponge cake was the Golden Giggling Grapefruit! 'I’m so sorry!' Benny whispered. 'I’m entering the Grand Bake-Off today, and I thought this would make the perfect centerpiece to help me win. I was going to bring it back right after the judging!'
Madame Magenta laughed, and even Officer Oatmeal let out a sigh of relief. 'A cake needs frosting, Benny, not ancient artifacts!' Leo said with a grin. Benny returned the statue, and as an apology, he shared his delicious sponge cake with everyone. The mystery was solved, and the Golden Giggling Grapefruit was safe once again.
