Captain Azurebeard, a pirate with a parrot named Sparkle, had a problem. Not a treasure-hunting problem, or a kraken-fighting problem, but a…sleep problem. See, all the little pirates-in-training on his ship, the Sea Dreamer, refused to sleep in their own hammocks. They missed their moms and dads, and the ship echoed with tiny pirate snores clustered in Captain Azurebeards quarters. He was losing sleep!
One night, under a sky dusted with stardust, Sparkle squawked, "Unicorns! Unicorns can help!" Azurebeard, never one to dismiss a talking parrot, agreed. He knew of the Isle of Dreams, a hidden island where unicorns grazed on moonbeams and their horns sang lullabies.
He sailed the Sea Dreamer to the Isle of Dreams. There, they met Luna, a unicorn with a mane like spun moonlight. Azurebeard explained their predicament. Luna, her horn glowing softly, agreed to help. She gathered a handful of Sleep Sand – tiny grains that smelled of lavender and dreams – and gave it to Azurebeard.
"Sprinkle this on their pillows," Luna advised, "and tell them that the Unicorn Pirates are watching over them. We protect all good sleepers from the Night Monsters."
Azurebeard, though skeptical, followed Lunas instructions. He sprinkled the Sleep Sand on each little pirates hammock and whispered tales of the Unicorn Pirates – brave sailors who sailed on rainbow ships, fought shadows with their shining horns, and always, always made sure children slept soundly.
That night, a miracle happened. The Sea Dreamer was filled with the soft snores of children sleeping soundly in their own hammocks. The Unicorn Pirates, though unseen, were definitely on duty. From then on, every night, Azurebeard told tales of the Unicorn Pirates, sprinkled a tiny bit of Sleep Sand, and the little pirates drifted off to sleep, dreaming of adventure and safety under the watchful horns of their mythical protectors. Even Azurebeard slept better, knowing his crew was safe and sound...and finally out of his quarters!
