It was Christmas Eve, and the air outside was crisp and cold, filled with the scent of pine and the distant sound of snowflakes gently falling. Inside the cottage, Mira sat by the window, her breath fogging the glass as she watched the world turn white. She had always loved this time of year, but this year felt different—quieter, almost expectant, as if something magical was about to happen.
Mira’s mother had gone to the village to help with the Christmas preparations, leaving her with a basket of cookies and a stack of storybooks. But Mira’s mind was not on books or cookies. She was thinking about the old tale her grandmother used to tell about the Snowy Lantern—a glowing orb that appeared on the coldest nights, guiding lost souls to warmth and safety. Mira had always wondered if it was real.
As she reached for a book, something caught her eye outside. There, nestled in the snow beneath the old oak tree, was a lantern glowing softly, its light casting golden shapes on the frost-covered ground. Mira’s heart raced. She bundled up quickly, grabbed her scarf and mittens, and stepped outside into the snow, the lantern calling her like a whisper in the wind.
The lantern led her deeper into the woods than she had ever gone before. The trees stood tall and still, their branches covered in ice, and the silence was thick with wonder. Then, from behind a tangle of pine boughs, a soft voice spoke, “You’ve come at last.”
Mira turned to see a small creature, no taller than her knee, with fur like snow and eyes like glowing embers. “I’m Frosty,” the creature said, “and I’ve been waiting for someone kind to find me. My lantern is fading, and I can’t return to the North Pole without it.”
Mira’s heart went out to the creature. “I’ll help you,” she said. “But how?”
Frosty explained that the lantern was magic, but it needed a spark of kindness to reignite. Mira thought hard. “What if we sing a song?” she asked. “Maybe the magic is in the joy of giving.”
Together, they sang, their voices weaving through the trees, and as the last note rang out, the lantern flared to life, brighter than before. Frosty’s eyes sparkled with gratitude. “You’ve done it!” he said. “Now I can go home and bring Christmas joy to the North Pole.”
As Frosty soared into the sky, the lantern’s light faded, but Mira felt a warm glow in her chest. She returned home, her heart full, knowing she had helped bring a little bit of Christmas magic to someone who needed it most.
That night, as she tucked herself into bed, Mira smiled, her eyes heavy with sleep. She had a new story to tell, and a new memory to cherish. And as she drifted off, she whispered, “Merry Christmas, Frosty.”
The end.
