One quiet night, beneath a silver moon, Mica the cat crept through the tall grass near the old barn. Her paws made no sound, and her eyes glowed like two tiny lanterns in the dark. She had always heard whispers from the barn at night—soft chittering, laughter, and the sound of tiny feet tapping in rhythm. But Mica had never seen the source of the noise. Not until tonight.
As she peered around the corner, Mica gasped. A circle of mice had gathered under the moonlight, dancing with sticks and leaves, their tiny bodies spinning like stars. The air smelled of dew and wildflowers, and the music came from a rustling wind that seemed to hum just for them. Mica’s tail twitched with curiosity. She had always been taught that mice were sneaky and sly, but these mice were not like the ones she had chased before. These mice were kind, and they were having fun.
Mica crept closer, her heart pounding. The mice noticed her, but instead of running, they froze, their tiny eyes wide with surprise. One little mouse, with a patch over one ear, stepped forward and said, "You’re not like the others, are you?" Mica blinked, unsure of how to reply. Then she sat down, her tail curling around her paws, and said, "I’m just a curious cat. I didn’t know you were having a party."
The mice giggled, and the patch-eared mouse nodded. "We do this every night, but we never see a cat. We thought you were all afraid of us." Mica smiled and said, "I’m not afraid of you. I’m just afraid of being lonely." From that night on, Mica visited the moonlit mice every evening, and they became her best friends. Sometimes, they even played hide-and-seek with her, and she would chase them through the tall grass, her heart full and her paws light.
Mica learned that kindness can turn even the smallest creatures into the best of friends.
