Dia Cero: Echoes of the Silence

The silence was the first thing I noticed. Not the absence of sound, but a profound, suffocating stillness that pressed against my eardrums. Dia Cero, they called it. Day Zero. The day the Resonance stopped. Before, the world hummed with it. A subtle vibration, a shared consciousness that linked all living things. It was the source of our art, our science, our connection. Now, it was gone.

I woke in my apartment, the power still on, a flickering reminder of the world that was. Outside, the city was eerily calm. No traffic, no sirens, no distant chatter. Just the wind whispering through empty streets. I found a note on my door, scrawled in my own handwriting: Hospital Central. Now.

The hospital was a ghost of its former self. Doctors wandered the halls, their faces etched with confusion and fear. Patients lay in beds, unresponsive, their eyes vacant. Dr. Alvarez, my mentor, found me. "Isabel," he said, his voice hoarse, "youre one of the few. You can still…feel something, cant you?"

I nodded. The Resonance was faint, a distant echo, but it was there. He explained that those who had a strong connection to the Resonance before were the only ones who retained a sliver of it. We were the key, he believed, to understanding what happened, and perhaps, to restoring it.

We spent weeks experimenting, trying to amplify the faint signals, to understand the nature of the silence. We discovered that the Resonance hadnt disappeared entirely; it had fragmented, become distorted. Some people experienced uncontrollable emotions, others lost their ability to speak, and some…some simply vanished.

One day, I stumbled upon a pattern. The Resonance was strongest near ancient sites, places where the earth held a deep history, a memory of the past. We gathered a team and traveled to the oldest site we knew, the ruins of a forgotten civilization nestled deep in the Andes. There, amidst crumbling stones and overgrown vines, I felt it – the Resonance, raw and untamed, pulsing beneath the earth.

I closed my eyes, focusing on the echo, trying to connect, to understand. And then, I saw it. A vision. A tear in the fabric of reality, a darkness consuming the light of the Resonance. A being of pure entropy, feeding on the life force of the world. It was the source of the silence. The enemy.
