Once upon a time, in a forest full of tall trees and whispering winds, there lived a little girl named Red. Her grandmother lived in a cottage at the edge of the woods, and every day, Red would take a basket of goodies to visit her. Today, her basket was especially full—fresh berries, warm bread, and a jar of honey. ‘Be careful, Red,’ her mother said, tying a red ribbon in her hair. ‘The Big Bad Wolf lives in the woods, and he loves to trick kind little girls.’
Red smiled, not worried at all. She skipped through the forest, the sunlight dancing through the leaves and painting the ground in gold. Birds sang songs in the branches above, and butterflies fluttered around her. She was so busy enjoying the beauty of the forest that she didn’t notice the wolf hiding behind a bush, watching her with hungry eyes. ‘What a lovely little girl,’ he thought, ‘and what a delicious basket she carries.’
Just as Red reached the edge of the woods, she heard a rustle behind her. ‘Good day, little girl,’ said a deep, gruff voice. ‘Where are you going with such a pretty basket?’ Red turned around and saw the Big Bad Wolf, his fur as dark as the midnight sky. She didn’t run or shout. Instead, she smiled and said, ‘I’m going to visit my grandmother. She’s very old and needs some food.’
The wolf’s ears twitched. ‘Oh, I know your grandmother! She lives just a bit further down this path, doesn’t she? I’ll go ahead and visit her too. That way, I can make sure she’s safe.’ Red’s eyes widened. ‘But you’re a wolf!’ she said. ‘You can’t visit her. She would be very afraid.’ The wolf scratched his head. ‘Hmm, you’re right. But I can be kind. I can bring her some berries too.’
Red thought for a moment and then nodded. ‘That’s a very kind idea, Wolf. But you must be very quiet, so you don’t startle her. And if she asks for something, you must say the truth.’ The wolf agreed, and off he went, leaving Red to walk to her grandmother’s cottage. She arrived safely, and her grandmother was happy to see her. ‘I brought you some of the best berries, and a very kind wolf is on his way,’ Red said. ‘He said he would bring you some berries too.’
Grandmother laughed. ‘A kind wolf? That’s a new kind of wolf, I must say. But I believe you, dear.’ Just then, the wolf arrived, carrying a basket of berries. He was very quiet and gentle, and he gave the berries to Grandmother with a smile. From that day on, the Big Bad Wolf became a friend to the forest, and Red visited her grandmother often, always bringing a smile and a story. And the wolf would always smile back, happy to be kind.
And so, the forest was filled with laughter, kindness, and the warm glow of friendship, just like the golden sunlight that danced through the trees.
