Pip was a small, happy orange fox. He had soft fur and white-tipped ears. He always wore a bright green scarf. Today, Pip was playing in the big meadow. The grass was very green. The flowers were very yellow. Pip had a beautiful red kite. It danced in the blue sky.
Suddenly, a big puff of wind blew. The kite string slipped from Pip’s paws. The red kite flew away. It got stuck in a very tall oak tree. Pip ran to the tree. He looked up at his kite. It was too high. He tried to jump, but he could not reach it. He tried to climb, but his paws slipped. Pip sat down and felt very sad.

"Hello there," said a tiny, cheerful voice. A bird landed on a low branch. It was Blue. Blue was a round, fluffy blue bird. He had bright yellow wings. He wore a tiny red hat. "Why are you sad, Pip?" Blue asked. Pip pointed at the red kite. "My kite is stuck," Pip said.
Blue smiled and flapped his yellow wings. "Do not worry, friend! I can help you." Blue flew up, up, and up. He reached the very top of the tree. He grabbed the kite string with his small beak. He pulled it gently. The kite came free! Blue flew back down to the ground.

Pip was so happy. His tail wagged fast. "Thank you, Blue! You are a great bird." Pip did not want to fly the kite alone. He gave the string to Blue. "Let's play together," Pip said.
They spent the whole afternoon playing. Pip ran on the grass. Blue flew in the air. The red kite stayed high above them. They laughed and played until the sun began to set.
Then, they sat on a soft, mossy hill. They shared a bowl of sweet red berries. The sky turned orange and pink. Pip looked at his new friend. He was happy his kite was safe. But he was even happier to have a friend like Blue. Friendship was the best prize of all.
