In the heart of the Piney Woods, where the trees hummed lullabies and the rivers sparkled like glass, lived a very greedy squirrel named Sammy. Sammy had a cozy nest high in an oak tree, and he loved nothing more than collecting shiny things—acorns, shiny pebbles, and most of all, pudding. He had a special spot in his nest for pudding, and he would hoard it all, even when the other animals needed a treat.
One sunny morning, the forest animals gathered for a picnic. Mrs. Beaver brought honey cakes, and Mr. Fox had fresh berries. But when they went to the dessert table, there was nothing but a lonely bowl of pudding, and it was already gone. The animals looked around in surprise. "Where is the pudding?" asked little Lila the Lamb, her nose twitching with confusion.
"It must be with Sammy!" said Tilly the Tortoise, who had seen Sammy sneaking around the dessert table the day before. The animals marched through the woods, past the giggling frogs and the whispering ferns, until they found Sammy’s tree. They knocked on the trunk, and Sammy popped out, holding a giant spoonful of pudding.
"You can’t have any!" he shouted, waving the spoon. "This is all mine!"
"But we all need pudding!" cried Lila. "It’s not fair!"
Sammy’s eyes widened. He had never thought about fairness before. He looked down at the pudding, then up at the hungry animals. Slowly, he handed over the spoon. "Okay, okay, you can have some," he said, and he shared the pudding with everyone. It was sticky and sweet, and the forest animals were happy. Even Sammy felt good, and he realized that sharing made the pudding taste even better.
Moral: Sharing makes the sweetness of life last longer.
