One quiet evening, as the sun dipped behind the hills and the stars began to blink awake, a small gray cat named Lila padded through the forest. Her nose twitched with wonder as she sniffed the air, following the scent of something new. A soft, golden glow shimmered ahead, and Lila crept forward with cautious paws, her tail flicking with curiosity.
There, nestled among the tall grass, was a lantern—tiny, glowing like a firefly, but much brighter. As Lila nudged it with her nose, a soft chime rang out, and a gentle voice said, “Thank you, kind cat. I’ve been waiting for someone to find me.”
Lila blinked, then looked around. “Who’s there?” she asked, her voice as soft as the rustling leaves.
“I am Lina,” the voice replied. “A little girl who got lost on her way home from the moonlight festival. I brought this lantern to guide me, but I’ve been too afraid to go on alone.”
Lila’s heart melted. She looked at the lantern, then at the girl, who stood shyly behind a bush. “Come with me,” she said, “I’ll help you find your way.”
Together, they followed the lantern’s glow through the forest, past whispering trees and over moonlit stones. Soon, they reached a small village where a familiar voice called out, “Lina! Where have you been?”
Lila watched as Lina ran into her mother’s arms, then turned and gave the cat a gentle nudge with her paw. “Thank you, Lila,” she whispered. The lantern dimmed, then vanished like a dream.
Lila padded home, her heart full. She had found something magical, and in return, had made a friend. From that night on, she always left a small trail of glowing pebbles in the forest, just in case another lost soul needed help.
The moral of the story is: A little kindness can light the way for someone in need.
