Valentina was ten years old and loved to draw. One day, while doodling a dragon with shiny wings, she heard her parents talk about 'adolescence.' It sounded like a faraway and mysterious land! The next day, her grandmother gave her a magical book called 'The Map of Adolescence.'
When she opened it, the book shone and Valentina found herself in an enchanted forest. A wise owl named Sabio was waiting for her. 'Welcome, Valentina,' said Sabio. 'This forest represents adolescence. It's a time of big changes, but also of lots of adventure!'
'Changes? What kind of changes?' Valentina asked, a little scared.
Sabio smiled. 'Your body will change. You will grow taller, your body will get curvier, and your skin might have some rebellious pimples. It's normal! We all go through this. It's important to eat healthy, exercise, and sleep enough to help your body grow strong and healthy.' Sabio pointed to a crystal-clear stream. 'Drink from this water to always remember to take care of your body.'
Valentina drank from the stream and felt a renewed energy. Then, Sabio led her to a clearing where there was a group of butterflies of different colors. 'These butterflies represent your emotions,' explained Sabio. 'During adolescence, your emotions can be like these butterflies: sometimes happy and bright, sometimes sad and dark. It's important to learn to recognize and express your emotions in a healthy way. Talk to your parents, a teacher, or a friend if you feel confused or sad.'
A blue butterfly landed on Valentina's hand. 'Sadness is part of life,' said Sabio. 'But don't let it consume you. Look for activities that make you happy, like drawing, reading, or spending time with your friends.'
They continued their journey and arrived at a maze made of mirrors. 'This maze represents your identity,' said Sabio. 'During adolescence, you will start to wonder who you are and what you want in life. It's normal to feel confused sometimes. But don't be afraid to explore different options! Try new hobbies, meet new people, and discover what excites you.'
Valentina walked through the maze, seeing different reflections of herself. Sometimes she looked like a child, other times like a young adult. She felt a little fear, but also excitement. Sabio encouraged her: 'Don't compare yourself to others. Everyone is unique and special. Find your own voice and follow your own path!'
They left the maze and arrived at a bridge crossing a turbulent river. 'This river represents social relationships,' said Sabio. 'During adolescence, your relationships with your friends and family will change. You will learn to be more independent, but you will also need the support of others. It's important to choose friends who respect and support you, and to learn to communicate effectively with your parents.'
Valentina crossed the bridge carefully, remembering Sabio's words. On the other side of the river, she saw a group of fruit trees. Each tree represented a decision she would have to make during adolescence. Some trees had sweet and juicy fruits, others had bitter and rotten ones. Sabio explained: 'Every decision has consequences. Think carefully before acting, and ask for advice if you need it. Don't be afraid to make mistakes, but learn from them!'
Valentina tasted a sweet fruit and felt full of energy. Then, she said goodbye to Sabio and returned to the real world. When she closed the book, Valentina realized that adolescence wasn't as scary as she thought. It was a journey full of changes, emotions, and decisions, but also of opportunities to grow, learn, and discover who she really was.
Now, when she heard her parents talk about 'adolescence,' Valentina smiled. She knew she was ready for the adventure ahead. She knew she had the 'Map of Adolescence' in her heart, and that she could always ask for help from her parents, teachers, and friends. And, above all, she knew she was special and unique, and that she had a lot to offer the world. Valentina understood that growing up was a challenge, but also an incredible opportunity to become the best version of herself. So, she took her colored pencils and continued drawing, ready to paint her own adventure of growing up.
