She was not a princess yet, but she dreamed of becoming one. One day, the king announced a royal test: only a true princess could sleep on a bed of twenty mattresses and a single pea. If she could rest undisturbed, she would be crowned queen of the kingdom.
Lila, with her heart full of wonder and her pockets filled with wildflowers, journeyed to the castle. The king’s advisors doubted her, but Lila smiled and said, “Let me try.” That night, she was placed on a bed stacked high with soft, fluffy mattresses, and beneath them, a single tiny pea. She closed her eyes and dreamed of castles, dragons, and dancing stars.
The next morning, the king and queen rushed to check on her. “Did you sleep well?” they asked. Lila blinked her sleepy eyes and said, “Oh yes, I dreamed of flying on a rainbow!” The king and queen exchanged surprised glances. “But how?” they asked. “I heard a tiny pebble beneath my head,” Lila replied, “and it made me think of how small and brave I am.”
The king and queen beamed with pride. “You are truly a princess,” said the queen, placing a crown on Lila’s head. From that day on, Lila ruled with kindness, remembering that even the smallest things—like a pea—can carry the weight of greatness. And so, the kingdom thrived under the gentle hand of a girl who believed in herself, no matter how tiny the test.
