The Pondside Puddlers were the hardest-working football team in the valley. Leo, their captain, was an eight-year-old with messy brown hair and tan skin who lived for the game. One afternoon, while looking for a spare ball in the old equipment shed, Leo found a dusty wooden crate filled with bright yellow rubber duckies. As soon as he picked one up, a strange purple mist swirled around his ankles.
'Quack!' Leo suddenly blurted out. He tried to run, but his feet felt heavy and his knees started to bend outward. He was waddling! His teammates, curious about the crate, touched the ducks too. Soon, the entire team was waddling and let out involuntary quacks every time they tried to speak. 'It’s a curse!' Leo quacked, though it sounded more like a rhythmic honk.

The championship match against the Mountain Giants was only an hour away. The Puddlers arrived at the emerald-green field, feeling ridiculous. Every time Leo tried to dribble, his waddle made the ball zigzag in strange patterns. By halftime, they were down two goals. The Mountain Giants were laughing, and the Puddlers felt like giving up.
'Listen up!' Leo said, his green and white jersey slightly ruffled. 'We might be waddling, and we might be quacking, but we are still a team. We don’t stop when things get difficult. We adapt!'

Leo realized their waddle made their movements unpredictable. He told his teammates to embrace the curse. Instead of sprinting, they used their low center of gravity to weave through the Giants' legs. Leo quacked a signal, and the team moved in a synchronized V-formation, just like a flock of birds.
The crowd went wild as the Puddlers moved with newfound determination. With two minutes left, the score was tied. Leo received a pass, his messy brown hair flying as he waddled faster than ever. He pivoted on one foot, the cursed ducky in his pocket glowing faintly, and struck the ball with all his might. The ball soared into the top corner of the net!
The whistle blew, and the Puddlers had won. The purple mist evaporated, and the curse vanished as quickly as it had arrived. They hadn't won because they were the fastest, but because they refused to quit when the game got weird.
True champions don't stop when things get difficult; they keep going until they reach the goal.
