The Small Story Moral of the Lost Marble

One sunny afternoon, Benji sat on the grassy hill behind his house, rolling his favorite blue marble across the pebbles. It was smooth, shiny, and perfect—just like the way his mother always said he should be. But today, the marble rolled too far, down the hill, over a rock, and vanished behind a thicket of brambles. Benji stood up, his face falling. 'I can't find it,' he whispered. 'It's my favorite.' He ran to tell his mother, but when she looked, she just smiled and said, 'Well, sometimes things get lost so they can be found again in a better way.'

Benji wasn't sure what that meant, but he decided to search for his marble anyway. He poked through the brambles, brushing against thorns and pushing aside leaves. Just as he was about to give up, he heard a tiny squeak. 'Hello?' he called out. 'Is someone there?' A small, round creature with big, curious eyes peered out from behind a bush. It was a hedgehog, no bigger than a teacup, with a soft brown coat and a nose like a button. 'I’m Lulu,' she said. 'Are you lost?'

'No,' Benji replied. 'I’m looking for my marble.' Lulu tilted her head. 'May I help?' Benji hesitated, but then nodded. Together, they searched the hill, Lulu using her tiny claws to dig through leaves and Benji using his hands to move rocks. They found a few other toys and trinkets, but not the marble. Just as the sun began to dip below the trees, Lulu stopped. 'I think I know where it is,' she said. 'Follow me.'

They crawled under the hill, where the ground was cool and mossy. Lulu led Benji to a small cave, and there, nestled in a bed of leaves, was his marble, glowing faintly in the dim light. 'How did it get here?' Benji asked. Lulu smiled. 'Sometimes, things find their way to places where they belong.'

Benji thanked Lulu and carried the marble back home. His mother was surprised to see him so happy. 'What happened?' she asked. 'Lulu found it for me,' Benji said. 'She helped me look, and we found it together.' His mother hugged him and said, 'That's the best kind of friendship.'

From that day on, Benji always kept his eyes open for small things. He watched for lost toys, smiled at passing animals, and listened when others needed help. And sometimes, when he looked down at his blue marble, he remembered the hedgehog who had helped him find it. He knew that even the smallest creature could teach the biggest lesson.
