In the heart of Sunnyberry Lane lived a boy named Tommy. Tommy was five years old, with messy chestnut hair that always seemed to catch the sunlight and a smile that could brighten the gloomiest afternoon. He wore his favorite bright orange t-shirt with a big yellow star on the chest, denim shorts, and red sneakers that were perfect for running. Tommy was a curious boy who loved to share what he knew. Whenever he met someone new, he would wave his hand high and shout, 'Hello, little learners! Welcome to Fun Time!'
One sunny Tuesday, Tommy headed to the Great Oak Park with his red wagon full of wooden planks and colorful tools. He had a big plan: he wanted to build the tallest tower in the world. But as he reached the shade of the giant oak tree, he saw someone already there. It was a boy about his age, wearing a soft green sweater, sitting quietly with a small set of building blocks. The boy looked a bit lonely, staring at the grass.
Tommy didn't hesitate. He marched right up, his red sneakers crunching on the fallen leaves. 'Hello, little learners! Welcome to Fun Time!' he announced with a giant grin. The boy in the green sweater looked up, startled but curious. 'I’m Tommy,' he said, sitting down. 'What are you building?'

The boy whispered, 'I’m Sam. I was trying to make a house, but it keeps falling down.'
Tommy looked at the small pile of blocks. 'Maybe it needs a stronger base!' he suggested. 'I have big planks in my wagon. Do you want to help me build a Friendship Fort instead?' Sam’s eyes lit up. He had never built a fort before. Together, the two boys started to work. Tommy showed Sam how to balance the heavy planks against the trunk of the oak tree, and Sam showed Tommy how to use the small blocks to fill in the gaps like colorful windows.
As they worked, they talked about their favorite things. Tommy told Sam about the stars and how his t-shirt reminded him to always reach for them. Sam told Tommy about his collection of smooth river stones. They realized that while Tommy was fast and loud, Sam was careful and steady. When Tommy wanted to rush the roof, Sam pointed out that it might wobble. When Sam was too nervous to climb a low branch, Tommy held his hand and cheered him on.

By the time the sun began to dip toward the horizon, painting the sky in shades of pink and gold, the fort was finished. It wasn't just a tower or a house; it was a magnificent Secret Friendship Fort, complete with a leaf-carpeted floor and a 'window' that looked out over the pond. They sat inside the cozy wooden walls, sharing a box of crackers Tommy had brought in his wagon.
'You know,' Sam said, crunching on a cracker, 'I thought I could only build small things by myself.'
Tommy nodded, his chestnut hair swaying. 'Everything is better when we learn together! That’s what Fun Time is all about.'
As their parents called them for dinner, the two boys shook hands. They promised to meet at the oak tree every day. Tommy realized that the best part of his day wasn't the fort they had built, but the new friend he had made. He pulled his wagon behind him, his red sneakers glowing in the twilight, feeling like the luckiest five-year-old in Sunnyberry Lane. He had learned that friendship was the strongest foundation of all, and he couldn't wait to see what they would build tomorrow.
