One night, as the moon hung high and silver in the sky, little Lila tiptoed out of her bedroom and down the creaky stairs. The house was quiet, save for the soft ticking of the grandfather clock in the hallway. She had heard stories of the old library on the edge of town, a place that only opened when the moon was full. Tonight, the moon was full and bright, and Lila felt a tug in her heart, as if something was calling her.
Outside, the air was cool and smelled of dew and pine. Lila walked through the whispering trees until she reached the library. Its windows glowed with a golden light, and the iron gate creaked open as if it had been waiting for her. She stepped inside, and the air was thick with the scent of old paper and magic.
Inside, the library was unlike any she had ever seen. Books floated in the air, humming softly, and shelves twisted like staircases. A kind old woman with silver hair and a robe stitched with stars greeted her with a warm smile. “Welcome, little one,” she said. “You’ve come to find out what are fairytales, haven’t you?”
Lila nodded, her eyes wide with wonder. The old woman led her to a reading nook by the window, where a glowing lantern cast a soft light. “Fairytales,” she said, “are stories that show us how to be brave, kind, and clever. They are the spark that lights up our imaginations and teaches us about the world.”
As they read together, the stories came to life. A brave knight rescued a lost bird, a clever fox outwitted a tricky wolf, and a girl with a heart full of kindness brought light to a dark forest. Each tale was filled with wonder, and Lila felt her heart grow bigger with every word.
“Why do these stories feel so real?” Lila asked, her voice hushed. The old woman smiled. “Because they are. The magic of fairytales is in the lessons they teach, and the love they inspire. When you believe in them, they believe in you.”
As the night deepened and the moon shone brighter, Lila felt a warm light growing inside her. She said goodbye to the old woman and the magical library, carrying with her the stories and the kindness they had given her. She returned home, her heart full and her dreams sweet, ready to share the magic of what are fairytales with the world.
