In the heart of Maplewood Forest, there was a tiny bakery run by a plump, pink-cheeked baker named Bree. Every morning, she baked a dozen golden muffins, each one as fluffy as a cloud and as sweet as a summer day. Her favorite muffin, the one she called the 'Sunshine Special,' was always the first to be sold. But one morning, the Sunshine Special was gone—along with three others. Bree was puzzled. She had locked the door, and the key was still in her apron pocket. The bakery was spotless, and no one had seen anything unusual.
A squirrel named Sammy, who lived in a tree right outside the bakery, noticed something odd. "Bree, I saw a shadow near the back window last night. It was tall and... wobbly," he said, his tail twitching with excitement. Bree frowned. "A wobbly shadow? That sounds more like a bear than a thief." She turned to a bear named Bramble, who had been napping under the bakery’s awning. "Bramble, did you see anything?" she asked. The bear yawned. "I might have snorted a little, but I was dreaming about honeycomb."
Sammy and Bramble decided to investigate. They followed the scent of cinnamon and sugar to the back of the bakery, where they found a trail of crumbs leading to a hidden tunnel under the floorboards. Inside, they discovered a secret room filled with muffins—every last one of them, including the Sunshine Special. A tiny mouse named Miffy was there, her cheeks round with crumbs. "I didn’t mean to steal them," she said, looking up with wide, apologetic eyes. "I just wanted to taste the best muffin in the world."
Bree smiled. "Well, I guess you did. But next time, ask first." She handed Miffy a muffin and invited her to the bakery every day. From that day on, the bakery became a place of laughter, teamwork, and a little bit of mischief. And the Sunshine Special was always the first muffin sold—because everyone had a chance to try it.
Moral: Sometimes, the smallest thief has the biggest heart—and a great sense of taste.
