Once upon a time, in a cozy little house with pink curtains and a soft blue quilt, there lived a baby named Lila. She was the happiest baby in the world, with a giggle that could make the flowers in the garden dance and a smile that made the stars shine brighter. But one night, no matter how much her mother sang or how many stuffed animals she hugged, Lila just could not fall asleep. Her eyes blinked tiredly, but her brain kept thinking about butterflies, balloons, and balloons on butterflies.
"I can’t sleep," she said, clutching her favorite bear, Mr. Snuggles. "The stars are too bright, and the wind is too loud."
Her mother tried everything—reading her a story about a friendly dragon who loved to read, singing a song about raindrops and rainbows, even offering her a warm cup of cocoa. But Lila just sat up and stared out the window at the moon, which was full and round like a big silver ball. "Maybe the moon knows," she whispered.
High above the clouds, the moon heard her. She was a kind old lady with a silver comb and a heart full of light. "This baby needs a lullaby," she said to herself. "I should help her sleep."
So the moon took her silver comb and began to hum a gentle tune, soft as a whisper and warm as a hug. The tune floated down through the sky, past the clouds and the stars, and landed softly on Lila’s window. It tickled her ears and wrapped around her heart like a blanket.
"Oh, that’s a lovely song," Lila said, her eyes slowly closing. "Who is singing?"
The moon smiled down. "It’s me, my dear. I’ve been singing lullabies to sleepy babies for hundreds of years. You’re not the first, and you won’t be the last."
As the moon’s song continued, the room grew quiet. The wind outside stopped its loud whistle, the stars dimmed a little, and even the clock ticked more gently. Lila’s breathing deepened, her little fingers letting go of Mr. Snuggles. Her mother watched with a warm smile as her daughter finally drifted off to sleep, safe and peaceful.
The next morning, Lila woke up with a yawn and a sleepy smile. "I had the best dream," she said. "I danced with the moon and sang with the stars."
Her mother smiled and kissed her forehead. "That’s because the moon sent you a lullaby, my sweet."
And from that day on, every time Lila had trouble sleeping, she would look up at the moon and remember the gentle song that helped her fall asleep, safe in the arms of the stars.
The end.
