One quiet evening, as the sky turned the color of lavender, Greta sat on her porch swing, rocking gently. Her best friend, GF, was tucked in her bed, but she couldn't sleep. Her eyes were wide, and her tiny fists were curled around her stuffed bunny, Bumblesnug.
“Greta,” GF whispered, “I’m not sleepy. I can’t sleep without my lullaby.”
Greta smiled and leaned closer. “I know a song that will help you sleep. It’s a secret lullaby from the Moon.”
She stood up and walked to the edge of the garden, where the moonlight shimmered like silver thread. Greta closed her eyes and hummed softly. The air around her seemed to shimmer, and a soft glow began to rise from the ground. Suddenly, a tiny creature appeared—a moonlit monster with glowing eyes and a body made of clouds.
“Hello, little dreamer,” the monster said in a voice like wind chimes. “I’m Mumbly, the Moonlight Monster. I guard the lullabies of the world. You’ve asked for one, and I have just the right one for you.”
Greta’s eyes sparkled. “Can you sing it to GF?”
Mumbly nodded and floated up to Greta’s window. He began to sing a melody that sounded like the rustling of leaves and the whisper of the wind. The song wrapped around GF like a warm blanket, and she began to sway gently in her bed. The room filled with soft light, and tiny stars danced across the ceiling.
As the song continued, GF’s eyes fluttered shut, and her breathing slowed. Bumblesnug was now holding her hand, and her face was peaceful, like a flower in the morning sun. Greta smiled and watched as her friend drifted off to sleep, safe in the arms of the lullaby.
When the song ended, Mumbly bowed and vanished into the night, leaving behind a single glowing feather. Greta placed it on GF’s pillow, and as she tiptoed out of the room, she whispered, “Goodnight, GF. Sleep well, my friend.”
That night, as Greta lay in her own bed, she felt the soft hum of the lullaby still in the air. She smiled, knowing that dreams were magic, and that with a little kindness and a magical song, even the sleepiest of friends could find their way to sleep.
