Short Story of King and the Singing Stones

Once upon a time, in a land where the sun smiled on every morning, there lived a gentle king named Cedric. He was not a warrior, nor a wizard, but a man who loved to listen to the wind, the birds, and the stories of his people. One spring day, while walking through the forest beyond his castle, he heard something strange—a soft, melodic hum coming from the ground itself.

Curious, King Cedric followed the sound until he reached a clearing where the stones sparkled like polished gems. As he stepped closer, the stones began to sing, their voices like wind chimes in a summer breeze. Cedric sat on a mossy log and listened, enchanted. The stones sang of joy, of sorrow, of forgotten dreams. When they finished, one stone, larger than the rest, spoke in a voice like a whisper: “You have listened well, kind king. That is rare.”

“Why do you sing?” Cedric asked, his eyes wide with wonder.

“We sing for those who care to hear us,” the stone replied. “But many pass by without listening. They do not know the stories hidden beneath the earth.”

From that day on, King Cedric made it his duty to visit the singing stones every week. He brought his children, his servants, and even the shyest of villagers to listen.
