One quiet evening, Lily sat cross-legged on the floor of her cozy bedroom, surrounded by stuffed animals and a stack of old joke books. She giggled to herself as she read a funny one: 'Why don’t skeletons fight each other? They don’t have the guts!' Her laughter echoed through the house, until a soft, squeaky voice asked, 'What’s so funny?' Lily turned to see a tiny green monster peeking from behind the curtain. He had big round eyes and a tummy full of giggles he had never shared before.
'Oh! Hello, Monster!' Lily said, her eyes lighting up. 'Would you like to hear some jokes? They’re short and silly, but they’re fun!' The monster blinked and nodded. He sat down beside her, his big paws wiggling with excitement. Lily read joke after joke, and the monster’s face grew wider with each one. 'Why did the scarecrow win an award? Because he was outstanding in his field!' he squealed, nearly falling off the bed. 'Why did the math book look sad? Because it had too many problems!' The room filled with laughter, and the monster’s heart felt light for the first time.
As the night wore on, Lily and the monster created their own jokes, making up silly rhymes and funny puns. They talked about their favorite things — the monster loved wiggly worms and rainy days, while Lily adored ice cream and starry skies. 'I never knew being silly could feel so good,' the monster said with a smile. 'Maybe being a monster isn’t so scary after all.'
Lily hugged her new friend and said, 'The best jokes are the ones that make you laugh with someone you love.' The monster snuggled into his favorite pillow and closed his eyes, feeling warm and safe. And as the stars twinkled outside, he dreamed of more jokes and more laughter. 'Never be afraid to laugh,' Lily whispered. 'It’s the best magic of all.'
