Once upon a time, in a green valley nestled between two hills, there lived a little lamb named Lila. She had soft, white fur and the biggest, fluffiest tail in the whole meadow. The other animals adored her, especially the sheep, goats, and even the wise old tortoise who lived near the willow tree. But Lila had a tiny problem — she loved to tell stories, and sometimes she told them too loudly.
One sunny morning, as the sun painted the sky in golden hues, Lila was hopping through the tall grass when she saw a big shadow in the distance. It was just a passing cloud, but Lila cried out, “Wolf! Wolf! There’s a wolf coming!” The other animals all ran to hide behind trees and rocks, their hearts pounding. When they realized there was no wolf, they laughed and shook their heads, saying, “Lila, you scared us again!”
But Lila only giggled and said, “It’s just for fun!” The next day, she did it again. This time, she saw a branch swaying in the wind and cried, “Wolf! Wolf! Help!” The animals scrambled again, only to find nothing but the wind. They began to frown at her, and the tortoise said, “Lila, if you cry wolf when there is none, no one will believe you when there really is one.”
Lila felt a little sad. She didn’t want to be a trickster — she just wanted to be noticed. One day, as she was skipping near the stream, she heard a rustling in the bushes. This time, it wasn’t a cloud or a branch — it was a real wolf, sneaking up on a small rabbit. Lila’s heart raced. She knew she had to act fast. “Wolf! Wolf!” she cried, as loud as she could.
The animals heard her and ran to help. They chased the wolf away and saved the rabbit. The tortoise looked at Lila with a warm smile. “You’ve learned your lesson, haven’t you?” he said. Lila nodded, her eyes shining with pride and gratitude. From that day on, she only cried wolf when she really needed help, and the animals trusted her more than ever.
The meadow bloomed with laughter and friendship, and Lila became known as the most honest lamb in all the land. She still loved to tell stories, but now she told them with care, and no one ever doubted her again. And every night, as the stars twinkled above, she would curl up under the willow tree, listening to the gentle hum of the wind and the soft rustle of the leaves — a peaceful lullaby for the whole valley.
Moral: Always tell the truth, for honesty is the best way to earn trust.
