One sunny morning by the edge of a shimmering river, a curious monkey named Momo leaped from a tree and landed with a soft *plop* in the water. The splash startled a crocodile named Cobby, who was sunning himself on a mossy rock. Startled, Cobby hissed and flipped over, his tail slapping the water. Momo, though startled, just giggled and waded toward the crocodile.
"Hi there!" Momo called, her voice high and cheerful. "I didn’t mean to scare you. I was just looking for a friend."
Cobby blinked slowly, his eyes narrowing. "A friend? You’re a monkey. I’m a crocodile. We’re not friends."
"But we could be!" Momo said, swinging onto a nearby log. "I bet you’re lonely out here all by yourself. I know I’d be lonely without a friend to share my bananas with."
Cobby huffed, turning his back to Momo. But Momo was not one to give up easily. She climbed up the log and sat right beside him, swinging her legs and humming a tune. Soon, the sound of her humming made Cobby smile, though he didn’t say a word.
Days passed, and Momo visited Cobby every morning. She brought him shiny pebbles, told him stories of the forest, and even taught him to float on his back like she did. One day, as they floated together, Cobby asked, "Why do you want to be my friend, Momo?"
Momo looked at him with her bright, curious eyes. "Because I like you. You’re kind, even if you’re a bit grumpy sometimes. And I want you to be happy."
Cobby’s heart felt warm, and for the first time, he felt something he had never felt before—friendship. He smiled, and together, they began to explore the river, discovering new places and sharing their days.
One evening, as the sun dipped below the horizon and painted the sky in shades of orange and pink, Momo and Cobby sat on the bank, watching the water shimmer like gold. "You know," Cobby said, "I used to think I was all alone out here. But now I have a friend who makes every day brighter."
Momo grinned. "That’s what friends are for, Cobby. To make each other happy."
And from that day on, the monkey and the crocodile were never alone again. They became the best of friends, sharing stories, laughter, and the beauty of the river that connected them.
