In a quiet pond lived a turtle named Tito. Tito loved taking things slowly. He moved slowly, ate slowly, and thought slowly. The other animals in the pond always teased Tito for his slowness. —Ha, ha, look at Tito! — laughed the rabbit, jumping around him. —He's so slow he looks like a rock! —Yes — said the squirrel, jumping from branch to branch. —He's slower than syrup! But Tito didn't get upset. He knew he was slow, but it didn't matter to him. He liked taking his time and enjoying the simple things in life. One day, the pond dried up. All the animals panicked. —Oh no! — cried the rabbit. —We're going to die of thirst! —We have to find water! — said the squirrel, running back and forth. But Tito stayed calm. He knew there was a small spring on the other side of the forest. —Don't worry — said Tito. —I will take you there. The other animals laughed. —You? — said the rabbit. —You're too slow! —Yes — said the squirrel. —We'll die before you get there! But Tito didn't listen to them. He started walking slowly toward the forest. The other animals followed reluctantly. They walked for hours. The rabbit and the squirrel were exhausted. —I can't go any further! — said the rabbit, panting. —Me neither! — said the squirrel, swaying. But Tito kept walking, slowly but surely. Finally, they reached the spring. The other animals drank greedily. —Thank you, Tito! — said the rabbit. —You saved us! —Yes! — said the squirrel. —You're the best! Tito smiled. —You're welcome — he said. —I was just being patient. The animals learned a valuable lesson that day. They learned that patience is a virtue. And that even the slowest of animals can achieve great things if they are patient.
