The Proud Little Bunny and the Patient Turtle

Once upon a time, in a green and leafy forest, there lived a little bunny named Saltarín. Saltarín was known for his speed. He was the fastest rabbit in the whole forest! He always boasted about it, showing off to all the animals. 'I'm so fast! No one can beat me!' he would say, twitching his nose with arrogance.

One day, while Saltarín was showing off in the forest, he met an old tortoise named Doña Tranquila. Doña Tranquila was known for her slowness and patience. She walked slowly, but she always reached her destination.

When Saltarín saw Doña Tranquila, he couldn't help but laugh. 'Look at you! The slowest tortoise in the world! Where do you think you're going, Doña Tranquila? To the moon? At that pace, it'll take you a hundred years!' he teased, hopping around the tortoise.

Doña Tranquila, with her soft and calm voice, replied: 'I'm going to visit my granddaughter, who lives on the other side of the forest. I know it will take time, but I will get there.'

Saltarín, still laughing, proposed: 'I challenge you to a race! Let's see who gets to your granddaughter's house first! I bet I'll beat you even if I take a nap halfway!'

Doña Tranquila, although she knew Saltarín was much faster, accepted the challenge. She didn't like Saltarín's arrogance and thought he needed a lesson. 'Alright, Saltarín. I accept your challenge. Tomorrow morning, at dawn, we'll meet by the big oak tree to start the race.'

Saltarín, thrilled, hopped through the forest, telling all his friends about the race. Everyone was sure he would win easily.

The next day, at dawn, Saltarín and Doña Tranquila met by the big oak tree. A wise owl named Don Búho would be the judge of the race.

'On your marks, get set, go!' shouted Don Búho.

Saltarín shot off like a bolt of lightning. He ran so fast that he soon lost sight of Doña Tranquila. He looked back and didn't see her anywhere. 'Ha! I've left her behind! This race is too easy!' he thought.

He decided he had plenty of time to take a nap. He found a shady, leafy tree and curled up to sleep. 'When I wake up, I'll just take a little hop and win the race,' he thought before falling into a deep sleep.

Meanwhile, Doña Tranquila moved slowly but never stopped. Step by step, with patience and perseverance, she continued on her way. She didn't worry about Saltarín's speed, but focused on moving forward.

Saltarín slept for a long time. The sun was already high in the sky when he finally woke up. He stretched, yawned, and remembered the race. 'Oh no! I almost forgot!' he exclaimed.

He jumped and ran as fast as he could toward his granddaughter's house. But to his surprise, when he arrived, Doña Tranquila was already there! She was sitting in the garden, having tea with her granddaughter.

Saltarín was stunned, unable to believe what he saw. 'How...? How is this possible?' he stammered.

Doña Tranquila smiled gently. 'Patience and perseverance always beat speed and arrogance, Saltarín. You were too confident and stopped. I, on the other hand, kept moving forward, slowly but never stopping.'

Saltarín, embarrassed, realized his mistake. He had been too proud and too confident in his speed. He learned a valuable lesson that day. From then on, Saltarín stopped showing off and learned to respect the patience and perseverance of others. And most importantly, he became friends with Doña Tranquila.

Don Búho, who had arrived shortly after Saltarín, nodded wisely. 'True victory is not in being the fastest, but in perseverance and humility,' he said.

And so, the forest learned a valuable lesson: patience and perseverance always overcome arrogance and laziness.
