The Story of the Three Little Pigs and the Wiggly Worm

Once upon a time, in a green and golden meadow, there lived three little pigs named Pippin, Pip, and Pop. They were tiny, with curly tails and soft pink noses, and they loved to play in the sunshine and roll in the grass. One day, they decided it was time to build their own homes. ‘I’ll make mine out of straw,’ said Pippin, the youngest. ‘It’ll be light and bouncy!’ Pip, the middle pig, said, ‘I’ll build mine out of sticks. They’re strong and straight.’ Pop, the oldest, smiled and said, ‘I’ll make mine out of bricks. It’ll be solid and tall.’

Pippin’s straw house was built in no time. It looked like a tall grassy hill, swaying in the breeze. Pip’s stick house stood proudly with a roof of twigs, and Pop’s brick house rose up like a tower with a red door. The pigs were very proud of their work. But one day, a shadow loomed over the meadow. It was the big bad wolf, with a howl like a thunderclap and eyes like storm clouds. He sniffed the air and said, ‘I smell little pigs! I’ll huff and I’ll puff, and I’ll blow your houses down!’

The wolf first came to Pippin’s straw house. He huffed and puffed, and down came the house with a crash! Pippin ran to Pip’s stick house, and the wolf followed. He huffed and puffed, and down came the stick house too! Pippin and Pip ran to Pop’s brick house, slamming the door behind them. The wolf huffed and puffed, but the brick house stood firm. ‘I’ll never get in there!’ he growled, and he slinked away.

But the wolf wasn’t done. That night, he came back with a plan. He sneaked around the brick house and found a tiny hole near the wall. He tried to wiggle in, but the hole was too small. Just then, a soft, wiggly noise came from the ground. ‘Hello there,’ said a little worm named Wiggles. ‘You look like you need help.’ ‘I need to get into that house,’ the wolf said, grumbling. ‘But this hole is too small for me.’ Wiggles gave a cheerful wriggle. ‘I can help! I can make the hole bigger!’

Wiggles wriggled and wiggled until the hole was wide enough for the wolf to crawl through. But when the wolf went in, he found the pigs waiting. ‘You think you’re so smart,’ said Pop, ‘but we’ve been expecting you.’ The pigs had set traps with buckets and strings. The wolf tripped, and with a loud *thud*, he fell into a pile of leaves. The pigs laughed and said, ‘You’ll never scare us again!’

The wolf slinked away, and Wiggles the worm wiggled his way back into the soil. The pigs thanked him and said, ‘You’re the cleverest friend we’ve ever had!’ From that day on, the three little pigs lived safely in their brick house, and every night, they would curl up together and tell stories of their brave adventure. And if you listen very carefully, you can still hear the soft sound of Wiggles the worm, wiggling in the earth, happy and free.

And the moral of the story is: Always build your home strong, and never forget to help your friends.
