The Story of the Three Little Pigs

Once upon a time, in a green valley where the grass was soft as a lamb’s ear and the flowers smelled like honey, there lived three little pigs. They were very clever pigs, but they also knew that the world could be a little scary. One day, their mother said, “Now that you’re growing up, it’s time to build your own homes. Be sure to make them strong, for the big bad wolf is out there, and he doesn’t like to knock on doors.”

The first little pig, who was very quick and not so careful, said, “I’ll build my house out of straw! It’s light, and I’ll be done in no time.” The second little pig, who liked to plan, said, “I’ll build mine out of sticks. It will be sturdier than straw.” The third little pig, who was thoughtful and slow, said, “I’ll build my house out of bricks. It will be strong enough to keep the wolf out.”

So the first little pig built his straw house in no time. It was a cozy little nest in the meadow, with a round roof and a tiny window. But when the big bad wolf came along, he huffed and he puffed and he blew the house down with one big breath. The first little pig ran to his brother’s stick house, where he found the second little pig. “Come with me!” he cried, but the wolf was already there. He huffed and puffed and blew the stick house down too. The two little pigs ran to the brick house, where the third little pig was waiting. “Come in, come in!” he said, and they all huddled together inside.

The wolf came to the brick house and gave it a mighty blow. “Huff! Puff! I’ll blow your house down!” he said. But the brick house stood firm, not even a little bit wobbly. “You won’t blow my house down, you big bad wolf!” the third little pig said, standing tall. “I built it strong, and I’m not afraid of you.” The wolf growled and tried again, but he couldn’t budge the bricks an inch. He was so angry, he stomped off into the woods, muttering to himself.

Later that day, the three little pigs sat on the front steps of the brick house, sipping warm milk and eating honeyed bread. They laughed and talked about how smart the third little pig had been. “You saved us,” said the first little pig, “and you were right to take your time.” “It’s better to be slow and sure than fast and sorry,” the third little pig said with a smile. They all agreed that the best way to keep safe was to be kind, smart, and to help each other when things got tough.

That night, the moon shone bright over the valley, and the stars twinkled like silver buttons on a nightgown. The three little pigs snuggled into their beds, feeling warm and safe. The wolf had gone away, and the forest was quiet. They dreamed of happy things and woke up the next morning to a sunny day and a world that felt just right. And so they lived happily ever after, with their strong brick house and their hearts full of love and courage.
