Lila had always felt the whispering woods were just a story her grandmother told on stormy nights. But one morning, while chasing her brother Max, who had run off with his favorite dinosaur toy, she found herself standing at the edge of a forest she had never noticed before. The trees were tall and silver-barked, and the air smelled of pine and something sweet like honey. The only sound was the rustle of leaves and a faint, melodic hum that seemed to come from nowhere.

'Hello?' she called, but her voice was swallowed by the trees. Then she heard it—a voice, soft and curious, like wind through a flute. 'Why have you come, little one?' Lila turned, but there was no one there. She stepped forward, and the trees shivered. 'I’m looking for Max,' she said. 'He got lost.' The hum grew louder. 'Lost? Or simply... hidden?' The voice was both kind and mysterious.

Lila followed the sound deeper into the woods, where the sunlight filtered through the leaves like golden coins. She found a clearing with a stone archway covered in moss and ivy. At the center stood a tree with a face carved into its bark—a smiling face with eyes that seemed to blink. 'The Whispering Woods choose their visitors,' the tree said. 'If you wish to find your brother, you must answer three riddles. Fail, and you will be lost forever.'

Lila nodded, her heart pounding. The first riddle came in a voice like falling leaves: 'What is always coming but never arrives?' She thought for a moment. 'Tomorrow,' she said. The tree’s eyes blinked in approval. 'The second riddle: What has keys but can’t open locks?' Lila smiled. 'A piano.' The tree chuckled. 'The final riddle: What has a heart that doesn’t beat?' She paused, then whispered, 'An artichoke.'

The tree nodded. 'You have passed. Max is not lost. He is where the forest remembers.' The ground beneath Lila began to glow with soft light, and she followed it to a hidden glade where Max sat on a stone, playing with a tiny silver dinosaur. 'I found a place where time stands still,' he said. 'The forest keeps memories here.'

Lila hugged her brother tightly. 'We should go home now,' she said. 'But first, what is the secret of the Whispering Woods?' The tree’s voice echoed gently. 'Kindness is the key to every mystery.' As they stepped out of the woods, the trees sighed, and the forest returned to silence, waiting for the next curious soul.
