The Andean Condor and Lucia's Dream

Lucía, a girl with eyes bright as the sun, lived on the coast of Peru and dreamed of visiting the Sierra. She read books about the mountains, the green valleys, and the animals that lived there, especially the majestic Andean Condor. One day, while drawing a condor with colored crayons, she heard a soft fluttering at her window.

She opened the window and oh, what a surprise! A huge condor, with shiny black and white feathers, was looking at her with wise eyes. Lucía, though scared at first, felt a deep admiration.

"Are you the Andean Condor?" she asked, her voice trembling.

The condor slowly nodded. "That is what they call me. I have heard your longing to know the Sierra, little Lucía. Would you like to fly with me?"

Lucía's eyes lit up. "Yes, please! I have always dreamed of seeing the Sierra from the sky."

The Andean Condor extended one of his wings, and Lucía, a little afraid but very excited, climbed onto his back. The condor took off gently, rising above the houses and beaches, toward the mighty mountains rising on the horizon.

The journey was incredible. Lucía felt the wind in her face and saw the world from a completely new perspective. The Andean Condor showed her the hidden valleys, the winding rivers, and the picturesque villages clinging to the mountain slopes. He told her ancient stories of the Incas, of Pachamama, the Mother Earth, and the importance of respecting nature.

"Look, Lucía," said the Condor, pointing with his wing. "There is the Sacred Valley. It is a magical place, full of history and life."

Lucía looked down and saw a green, fertile valley with terraced fields that looked like giant steps. In the valley, she saw llamas grazing and small villages with red-tiled roofs.

"It's beautiful!" exclaimed Lucía, amazed.

The Andean Condor continued flying, showing Lucía the snow-capped peaks of the mountains, the crystal-clear lakes, and the forests of quinoa trees, the sacred tree of the Incas.

At a lake, they saw vicuñas drinking water. The Condor explained to Lucía that vicuñas are very valuable animals and that they must be protected.

"The Sierra is a special place, Lucía," said the Condor. "It is a place where nature is sacred and where people live in harmony with the earth. You must always remember this and do everything you can to protect it."

Lucía nodded. "I promise," she said. "I will always remember what I have seen and learned today."

After a long journey, the Andean Condor returned to the coast and set Lucía down at her window.

"Thank you, Condor," said Lucía. "This has been the best day of my life."

The Andean Condor smiled with his eyes. "Always remember the Sierra, Lucía. And remember that nature is a treasure we must protect."

With one last flutter, the Andean Condor rose into the sky and disappeared into the distance.

Lucía closed the window and ran to tell her family about her incredible adventure. Although they didn't believe her at first, Lucía knew it had all been real. She kept the drawing of the condor she had made that morning and hung it on her wall, to always remind her of her journey to the Sierra and the promise she had made to the Andean Condor.

From that day on, Lucía became a protector of nature. She learned everything she could about the Sierra and the animals that lived there. And she always remembered the lesson the Andean Condor had taught her: that nature is a treasure we must protect for future generations. She dreamed of returning to the Sierra, not flying, but walking along its trails and feeling the magic of the earth with her own feet.
