In a small town where green hills met the blue sky, lived a boy named Mateo. Mateo was known for his kindness and his big smile, but what made him stand out most was his honesty. One sunny day, Mateo was playing in the park when he found a wallet lying on the ground. He opened it with curiosity and saw that it was full of money. Mateo knew he should return it to its owner, but a small voice in his head told him to keep the money and buy all the candy he wanted. Mateo fought against the temptation, but his heart told him the right thing was to return the wallet. So he went to the police station and gave it to the officer. The officer thanked Mateo for his honesty and told him he had done the right thing. As Mateo walked back home, he felt proud of himself for doing the right thing. He knew he hadn’t received any reward for his honesty, but the feeling of having done the right thing was his greatest reward. The next day, Mateo received a letter from the wallet’s owner. The man thanked Mateo for his honesty and said he had lost all hope of recovering his money. He also sent Mateo a small gift as a sign of his gratitude. Mateo was happy to have returned the wallet, but even happier to have been honest. He learned that honesty is always the best policy, even when it’s hard.
